New Screens for NBA Live 09 are Pretty Good Lookin’

I’m an admitted fanatic of the NBA 2K series; they’ve always just played much better than the Live games in my opinion, particularly the past few years. NBA Live 08 was significantly better than 07, but given that game was a steaming pile of crap, that’s not saying much. Live 09 will look to build on last year’s solid outing, and this might be the first year in quite a long time where I’m compelled to pick up both Live and 2K.
The game’s cover athlete should be unveiled any time now — keep refreshing this page if you’re interested — and in the meantime you can check out a handful of new screenshots of the game on FileFront. The game looks great, but it’s all about how it looks in motion that really matters. One small thing that stuck out to me was in the screen where Pau Gasol is setting a pick on Richard Hamilton, you can see two cameramen in the exact same pose, and two cheerleaders who also appear to be in the exact same pose as the other. Small detail, but those little things can end up being glaring annoyances in the game.
Any guesses on who the cover athlete might be? My guess is Kobe Bryant, which will make it difficult to resist buying for me, being the huge Kobe fan that I am.

They brightened up the court a little bit from last year. But some of the stadiums still look far too dark. The resolutions and textures actually look worse than last year’s (especially the Chris Paul pic). I hope this is because there was a vast improvement in the character animations and gameplay.
