ps3firmware New PS3 Firmware (v 1.8) Now Available

For those of you with a PS3 out there, and from sales there aren’t too many, there is a new firmware update for you.

The firmware is version 1.8, and it comes with a few new features for your using pleasure, such as new Photo capabilities and being able to upscale DVDs to HD.

Game Stooge has your information, but here’s a quick list for you:

  • You can now upscale the video content of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format software to HD resolution.
  • You can now copy saved data from Playstation and Playstation 2 format software to a memory card or memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2) using a memory card adaptor.
  • You can now upscale video content of DVDs to HD resolution. However, some DVDs cannot be upconverted when outputting through component or D-terminal connectors.
  • Support has been added to allow remote play over the Internet.
  • You can now display image files and play music and video files that are saved on a remote device with service functionality (such as a PC or digital video recorder) over a network.
  • Support for a print function has been added under [Photo]. For more information on supported printers, refer to the SCE Web site for your region.
  • Support for zoom and trimming features has been added under [Photo].
  • A new type of slideshow has been added as a feature under [Photo].

If you all out there have downloaded the firmware and want to rave about it, let us know. If you think it’s poo, let us know that, too.

    It’s version 1.8 not 1.7… And Sony’s not losing so those 3 Mil PS3 owners have something to rave about with this new download. God I hate it when you come to these news sites and all they can announce other than the new upgrade, is how sony’s sales are. Cause that’s what was important for me when I looked up Firmware Update, was the sales!
    PS: since we’re writing about things off topic this was all typed using my keyboard on the PS3 web browser.

    Oops, typo.

    Weird how I didn’t mention the sales…

    ::sniffs::

    I think I smell a fanboy.

  3. Bob says:

    Andrew, You clearly mentioned the sales in the first line.

    ::sniffs::

    I think I smell an idiot.

  4. Andy says:

    Yeah, Jesus. I missed that–I did mention the sales.

    I guess I just didn’t care.

    The new update is amazing, upscaling is a key feature that ps3 was missing and the media server feature brings in something xbox had established that is important, especially for those of us with the 20gb version. the others are bells, and one whistle. Nice tho. People need to keep in mind that this is a new system, the os is going to change and establish itself, the online features will be enhanced with things like home and more ad-on content and new gaming engines like crytechs cry engine 2.0 and its pilot game crysis will show off what the ps3 is truly capable of. Its a matter of time, but I think a year from now, when the second generation of games and truly next gen games come out that ps3 will undoubtably be the pace setter. It will be fun to see, and it will be interesting when xbox fanboys are mumbling about how graphics dont make the game, and good AI just makes games impossible yada yada yada. I dont usually post in these forums, I dont like the back and fourth bs that console wars invariably bring, but you can’t argue ps3’s hardware supiorority. I know, “hardware and numbers dont mean anything” ive heard that before, but they do ok? they support the software right? They make videorealism and massive games possible, we are just waiting for those games. im waiting for the first flagship game to come, crossing my fingers and waiting, meanwhile I am burning it up in online resistence and motorstorm , and trotting across into oblivion.
