NetDevil has released a new Dev Diary on MMORPG on the flight system for its new Jumpgate Evolution MMORPG.
The original Jumpgate MMO implemented the D.A.N.C.E.R. engine for flight. It gave players “playably realistic” spaceflight in a virtual universe. The engine gave players a great deal of control and maneuverability, but wasn’t very easy for players to pick up and the control scheme didn’t support a keyboard and mouse set up.
The flight engine for Jumpgate Evolution now fully supports the keyboard mouse combo as well as the traditional joystick or gamepad controls. It also has added a flight mode that is less difficult for players to pick up, although it’s lacks the performance of the classic Jumpgate Engine. However this actually works out as now players will be able to toggle their “inertial dampeners” to switch between the two modes. Unfortunately, it’s an incorrect statement to say that Jumpgate Classic did not support keyboard and mouse. Many of the most effective PvP pilots in the game were known to fly using such a control scheme. It’s just that JGC’s keyboard and mouse controls weren’t very intuitive or easy to use, so it didn’t support keyboard and mouse -well-. That’s what’s changing with Jumpgate Evolution.
