New Eye of Judgement Screenshots Are Looking Pretty

FileFront has a batch of new screenshots for The Eye of Judgement, and I must say I’m impressed. For what first sounded like it was going to be a very basic game that planned on riding on the gimmick of having monsters appear on screen after placing a card on the game mat, the game appears to be shaping up nicely… at least in the graphics department.
There are a few gameplay shots and also what appear to be cinematics. Before checking out the screens and getting excited, keep in mind all of the things you’ll need to play (PS3, camera, game, cards, mat, etc.) and the fact that you’ll need another friend willing to play a game that consists of sitting around, placing playing cards on a mat. Might be tricky.

I need to do more research on this, but I loved playing the Magic The Gathering computer game that came out many years ago (the Shandalar adventure one).
However, how would the PS3 know what cards I’ve been dealt, or if I’m just leafing through the deck looking for the best card to play next?
Sounds like it could be fun for those that enjoy card games, and want something extra to add on to that, but I don’t see this working for the more average console gamer, who probably thinks board (bored) games and card games are chintzy.
