New 3D Realms IP Revealed; Earth No More

It seems the latest issue of Game Informer has got the scoop on 3D Realms’ “big announcement”. 3D Realms is working on a new shooter for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC called Earth No More and is being worked on by ex-Max Payne developer, Recoil Gamers.

The story goes a little something like this: The game opens in a small town in New England which has been quarantined due to an outbreak of some kind. Poison red vines spread and terraform the environment and surrounding wildlife. The outbreak isn’t caused by anything from space, but instead is caused by man’s abuse and tampering with the Earth.

Earth No More is said to have no cut-scenes (similar to how the story of Half-Life flows), and will focus around human interaction with a cast of characters who will have their own stories, personalities, motivations, and secrets. Earth No More will also have a conversation mechanic that will rival Mass Effect’s. And one last thing, 3D Realms is promising co-op play for the entire campaign as well as the ability to jump into the shoes of the enemy (similar to how The Crossing will play).

It seems 3D Realms is coming out with info for Earth No More a little early since the planned release date for the title is in 2009. Let’s just hope they stick to that release date better than they have with Duke Nukem Forever.
