Netflix May Offer Movies Through Xbox 360 and PS3

In a recent conference with media analysts, the popular movie rental service, Netflix, indicated that they are looking into distributing their movies through more internet-connected devices, including game systems such as the PS3 and Xbox 360. Said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings:
“In terms of enabling the viewing of online content on the television screen, we are exploring a variety of options, including Internet connected, high definition DVD players, internet connected game consoles, and dedicated internet set tops, with a variety of partners, trying to understand the best ways to provide inexpensive viewing of online content on the television.”
Unfortunately, it’s hard to say if Microsoft or Sony would be willing to allow the service on their consoles, considering they both have their own video on demand deals. Still, if this does happen, Netflix subscribers would be able to watch movies instantly on their televisions as well as their computers. As a Netflix subscriber, I say hurry up now and make this happen. A subscription to Netflix would be a whole lot cheaper than downloading a bunch of films from the Xbox Live Marketplace.
