Mulder was always the absolute protagonist, and the core of the show was about discovering aliens, the conspiracy, and what happened to Mulder's sister. They eliminated The Syndicate (the group working with the aliens) in season six, explained definitively what happened to Mulder's sister and abducted Mulder at the end of season seven. That didn't leave a whole lot for the last two seasons, especially given how atypically (for the show) they wrapped up so many plotlines. I'll stop myself there, because I could go on for a really, really long time. Definitely, Norbit.
