Racing games have some a long way since Pole Position, and to be honest, I have not played much in the way of racing games since Pole Position either – unless you count Ditty Kong Racing or Super Mario Kart. Yet, with Electronic Arts’ announcement today that the Need for Speed franchise is developing a new game that takes the series in a new direction, my interest was piqued. In Need for Speed ProStreet you compete head to head against the best street racers in the world amidst various head-to-head showdowns. EA Black Box is the developer, and providing some strange, evasive reason – it should hit shelves this November. Not that EA would delay the release though, they always deliver when they say they will… yeah right… and a bear does what in the woods?

According to the Larry LaPierre, the Executive Producer: “Need for Speed ProStreet accelerates street racing culture by providing the ultimate stage for the pursuit of street racing supremacy. This is a game about building the ultimate performance-tuned battle machine, taking it to multi-disciplinary showdowns all over the world and pitting your skills and reputation against the very best street racers.”

Boasting matchless precision and incontrovertible “photo-realistic graphics”, the game puts you in the center of the action. Using “Autosculpt” technology , it allows you to customize your car’s performance and personalize its appearance – and remember that every dent, scratch and crumpled body panel is proof of your racing moxie. The AI system immerses you deep into the game, and online mode offers competitive social play, where you can race it out to prove who is indeed king of the road. Need for Speed ProStreet will be available for the PC as well as the following consoles and handhelds: PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP and mobile devices.
