NBA Live 09 Dynamic DNA Trailer

I’ve never been shy about hiding my enthusiasm for the NBA 2K series and my disdain for recent NBA Live games (although Live 08 was certainly a step in the right direction), but I must say — this new Dynamic DNA feature that EA Sports is going on about with NBA Live 09 actually looks really, really cool.

Basically, the idea is that all of the players in the NBA are being tracked and updated in-game on a daily basis with data as to how well they’re performing in real life which, in turn, causes the player to play like his real life counterpart. Is Kobe knocking down tons of threes from the corners? Then your three attempts with him in-game will be that much more likely to go in. It’s an interesting twist to the usual assortment of features, so I have to applaud EA Sports for stepping things up this year.

Cynics and those who like their basketball game without the extra spice won’t be forced to use the DNA system, but for a diehard NBA fan, it’ll be really cool to play along as your favorite team goes on a hot streak.

Assuming that the game turns out well, it looks like I’ll be buying two basketball games this year.
