My 25 Favorite Video Games of All Time

My 25 favorite games of all timeI started out playing arcade games at my local grocery store. My mother would shop while I fed quarters into Asteriods, Space Invaders, Galaga, Q-Bert, Frogger, Dig Dug, and Tetris. Those were the four games that my local super market would switch back and forth – once a year or so, they would pull Pac-Man out of the back room much to the delight of the kids in my small town. At this point I was hooked, and I would get very impatient waiting for some little dork to get eaten by ghosts so I could play – only to find out that his mother had given him more quarters than mine.

Gradually, I started to get my own games at home. My parents bought me my first hand-held – a 9-volt battery operated Battlestar Galactica from Mattel. Eventually, I acquired an Intellivision, an Atari, and then moved on to Nintendo Country. Today, I own almost every console created, and still play them every once in a while. When my boyfriend and I moved in together, it was under the condition that the Colecovison and Commodore 64 came with him along with his stash of games and Conan novels.

Over the years, people have been shocked that I am into so many hardcore games. I suppose being a woman automatically makes you want to play kinder, more genteel games. This sort of stereotypical thought pattern, thankfully, is beginning to wane in this day and age. It still rears it’s ugly head once in a while, but thanks XBL, and games like WoW – men are finding that women like to frag enemies and go on raids as much as they do. Personally I have never been one to entertain the thought of even playing some silly namby pamby game. The most innocent game I have (besides the Mario collection) is Diddy Kong racing. You can’t get more tame than that – there is not a hint of violence surrounding that game, unless you count the violence that rages inside of me when I play the frustrating game.

More nonsensical ravings and my list after the jump

I am an RPG nerd, 100%. I like RTS, FPS, and good old-fashioned puzzle games as much as any one, but my heart lies in the RPG genre. To me, there is nothing more thrilling than raiding a dungeon, collecting as much loot as my character can carry, and slashing goblins and spiders to bits. But I am greedy also, especially when it comes to loot – I consider it an alternative to having a shoe fetish. For example: My character in Oblivion has one of every set of armor, every weapon, and of every type of magical jewelry that is in the game. I have them stashed away in one of my manors. Silly, but true. So you see, I am not some silly little girl who likes to play “pretty” games or “nintendogs”. I like to cut off heads – and yes this all stems from being a D & D dork from way back.

The following is my list of personal favorite games. It was hard for me to narrow them down to just 25 – I have been playing video games since Jimmy Carter was president. This list is not meant to imply that I find these to be the best games ever created. These are just my personal all time favorites for one reason or another. Everyone has their own; so feel free to share yours as well.

The games listed here are in no particular order:

and the mention to final fantasy VIII hahahahhaa XD the shittiest ff of all time, but hey the characters were really cute and nice to set a little girl sex fantasies on fire

but its ok , its personal…so now we know what kind of person wrote this

  4. Sasquatch says:

I agree. This list is lame and so is this site.

  5. 0rpheus says:

FF VIII was awesome! But where’s FF X? I think it has the best videogame love-story ever

  6. SJ says:

Sorry, but you have no idea what makes good games. If you have Elder Scrolls IV then you should not have Elder Scrolls III. Same could be said of Gods of War too and Zelda. Where is Elite? Where is Gauntlet, the one which Started Multiplayer gaming? If you like RPG’s where is Dungeon Master? One of the greatest games ever released. Way ahead of the competition for its’ time. I could throw away at least 10 of them. Don’t you play Multiplayer games? First Person Shooters? what the Hell is Zoo Tycoon 2 doing there? Didn’t you ever play Roller Coaster Tycoon, or Transport Tycoon Deluxe? Much better games.. Or Xcom Enemy Unknown? Civilisation? Get back to the drawing board… Redo the list.. You are not a gamer, but you are entitled to your list. Yes, and Final Fantasy VII should have been included. The only redeeming thing was you touched on some of the old games…but that’s it! The Simpsons, give me a break.. no idea…

Everyone is entitled to have their Top 25 games! We are all
different and will only occasionally overlap in our favourite
game. How, for example, can my list be the same, when I do not
play console games, but rather, PC games? The attitude of gamers is sometime so pitiful I can understand why a lot of women stay away from gaming
and why gaming is a dying art form, falling to the lowest common
    denominator in taste.

Because of my age and choice of format for playing games I would
put my Top 25 games as below, in no particular order, as with different genres and styles how can you put them in order?

    1. The Longest Journey
    2. Planescape Torment
    3. UFO Enemy Unknown
    4. Fahrenheit
    5. Red Storm Rising (Commodore 64)
    6. Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2
    7. Darklands
    8. Boiling Point
    9. Space Rangers 2
    10. Blair Witch Vol 1
    11. Deus Ex
    12 Elder Scrolls III Morrowind
    13. Arx Fatalis
    14. Project Firestart (Commodore 64)
    15. Sid Meier’s Railroad Tycoon
    16. Gabriel Knight 1
    17. Half Life
    18. System Shock 1 and 2
    19. Deadline (Infocom text adventure)
    20. Total Annihilation
    21. Beyond Good and Evil
    22. Vampire Bloodlines
    23. The Dig (LucasArts graphic adventure)
    24. The Jagged Alliance series
    25. SEAL Team

Now you can diss me too.

Woah, what’s with all the hate? She did say that it was a list of HIS 25 top games. I mean seriously, calm down. She’s not saying everyone else is wrong with their own personal favourites.

  9. SIN says:

UK_John….your list looks a lot nicer
and its great to see someone that likes MORROWIND better than OBLIVION …thumbs up

  10. Kodiak says:

Dear gods people, what is your problem? She never said “these are the best games! Obey or you die!” she only siad those were her favorite. I don’t like the majority of her choices either, but notice it is you, not her, that I am calling the complete and total dumbass.

  11. Stephany says:

So much Hate!!!!! Sheesh! I wonder how many of you have Barbie Funtime for PC hidden in the bottom of your underwear drawer. LOL. I have not played many PC games, because I had a dinosaur for a computer for over four years – and I was lucky that it could handle the solitaire game that came with Windows – let alone something as massive as Morrowind. If a game like that could have loaded, the computer would have caught fire and burned the town I live in to the ground. Just because I have played more FF games than the one I mentioned, does not mean I did not enjoy them, just that nothing stood out for me to make it especially memorable. Also, just because I do not have enough time in the day/week/month/year to play online CONSTANTLY does not make me less of a gamer. But to answer that question, yes I HAVE played online, and I have also played HALO 2 on XBL, and as far as FPS are concerned….. did I not mention Perfect Dark, and Goldeneye? I think I did. And as far as any of the other TYCOON games are concerned, no I have not had the opportunity to play any of those – my PC games mainly consist of RTS, the Fallout games, Diablo, Warcraft, Alice, and Titan Quest (blech). I should not have to justify my favorites to anyone but myself. EVERYONE has their own favorites, no one will agree totally with anyone else. That is why there is such a wide diversity in gaming genres. Think how boring it would be otherwise. Now, I am really going to get heat for this, but Morrowind, is one of the best games ever, period. End of story. So what that I have not played it on the PC yet? Who cares. It was still an awesome game, and I did not enjoy it any less because it was on the Xbox. One more thing, the next time any of you call another poster, news editor or anyone else a faggot bitch like the first person who commented did, your submission will be deleted. This is not a place for flaming. Have a nice day.

  12. UK_John says:

Well said Stephany. And regardless of your 4 year old PC, and the fact that you prefer RTS’s on PC. If you like FF for it’s characters and stroy you HAVE to get and play The Longest Journey. It will play on your 4 year old PC as it came out in 2000 and you will, even if you’re the toughest woman in gaming, cry at some point during the game and will, at the end, realised you have played one of the greatest adventures or even PC games of all time and you will also be saddened as you realise there should be more stories and characters like the ones in TLJ in gaming, both console an PC, and there patently isn’t.

  13. JimboJones says:

I’m not going to yell and scream like a child who hasn’t had his fill of candy. I’ll just say four words: Perfect Dark and Halo.

  14. buck man says:

    GEESH,
what on earth is y’alls problem she just put her opinion on the internet

i like your list personaly i would have put halo 1 and 2 on my list (but that is just me) and i also agree with jimbojones

  15. It's me says:

well, nice list but i havent played them all…. my list has (ill just name some) halo, halo 2, Aliens VS Predator 2 and my favorite game (really worth a try) Battle Realms! battle realms was made in 2001 and still has a great community.

  16. Kevin says:

Da list is aight i guess Ocarina of time should be number one outta da games you’ve named not link to the past WTF!
I tottaly love tales of symphonia and sonic adventure 2 battle im surprised they wernt there?
Anyways maybe you aint played them its your favourite games of all time not mine.
