More Details on PS3’s New Trophy System

As I mentioned, the PS3’s 2.4 update (coming this Wednesday) will bring support for Sony’s take on Achievements: Trophies. The video above should give you a good look at the new system and what you can expect once you download 2.4. A new option will be opened up in the Games area of the XMB, which will show all of your (supported) games and their Trophies. You’ll be able to select individual Trophies and see details on them, such as what you have to do to earn it, what value it is (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum), and when you unlocked it (if you already have, that is).
When you browse over to your friends list, you’ll be able to check out the new PSN profile screen, which displays recently unlocked Trophies, your entire Trophy selection, your current level (which the Trophies help build up) and, if you’re looking at a friend’s profile, you can compare Trophies.
You’ll be seeing existing games get patched to incorporate support for Trophies, starting off with Super Stardust HD. The following first-party games are confirmed to include Trophies support:
- BUZZ! Quiz TV
- LittleBigPlanet
- MotorStorm Pacific Rift
- NBA 09
- PAIN
- PixelJunk Eden
- Resistance 2
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation
- Warhawk
It’s great to see Sony finally do some legwork and narrow the gap between PSN and Xbox Live. For a while there, I was beginning to think they were relying entirely on Home to do that. Whether it was the persistent delays of Home that caused them to get all of these features supported in the XMB or not, I’m just happy I’ll finally be able to see which of my friends are online while playing MLB 08. Finally, no longer will I be lonely!

you’re right, yes Sony coppied xbox, so now PSN is as good if not better than XBL, and so that should mean i have to pay £40 or whatever? Right. but im not, i dont even have to pay for home, and Home will definitely make PSN better than the competition. So tell me why you would rather have an Xbox please
