Monster Hunter 3 Now a Wii Exclusive

Capcom has announced that it is moving its Monster Hunter franchise to the Wii -for the time being at least. Due to high development costs of working with the PS3, Capcom has moved Monster Hunter 3 to Wii where as previous installments of the game were popular Sony exclusives with 4.5 million units sold.
“Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title,” said Katsuhiko Ichii, Capcom’s managing corporate officer, according to Thompson Financial.
Although originally a PS3 exclusive, Capcom recently revealed Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii at a recent Nintendo press briefing. The publisher has stated earlier this month that it was shifting its development strategy for Sony products to the PS3, where previously it had dedicated its efforts on the PS2. This has now changed.
Maybe in the future Capcom will be able to work with the PS3 technology once it becomes less expensive, but for now it looks like the Wii is the favorite of the company.

This is big news, maybe not critical mass news but still big.
“The publisher has stated earlier this month that it was shifting its development strategy for Sony products to the PS3, where previously it had dedicated its efforts on the PS2. This has now changed.”
They said that 6 days ago so I doubt it has ‘all changed’. They obviously decided on this a long time before that announcement.
If it is an exclusive (and there has been no confirmation of that) then I think its a shame because Monster Hunter would have been great with next gen graphics.
Sweet.
“Monster Hunter would have been great with next gen graphics.”
The same could be said of any action game really. I don’t really care if its exclusive, I’m just glad to hear the game is at least going multiplatform, because Monster Hunter is too good a franchise to be limited in its exposure by the tiny install base of the PS3. If they release the game on Wii in Japan, a massive growing portion of gamers will get the opportunity to play it who otherwise never would have had the chance.
it’s not technically an announcement that it’ll be going multiplatform, as far as we know, they just changed platforms and for now it’s exclusive to the Wii. They just haven’t said further on whether or not it’ll go to other platforms.
“If they release the game on Wii in Japan, a massive growing portion of gamers will get the opportunity to play it who otherwise never would have had the chance”
Its not going to sell that much more on the Wii than the PS3. In fact considering all Monster Hunter fans will have to switch from Sony to Nintendo consoles to play it the sales might actually be less than it would have been. There is a new game being released on the PSP so they might just ignore this Wii version altogether.
With a Japanese install base of over 20m the PS2 version of MH2 sold less than 1m and I believe there are 3.5m Wiis in Japan compared to 1.2m PS3s. If they (and you) want it exposed to the widest audience then it should be on the PS2.
“Its not going to sell that much more on the Wii than the PS3. ”
I didn’t say it would sell more. I said that on the Wii it would get better exposure and enable a wider audience demographic the opportunity to play it. And it would. The PS2 comment is true but silly. If devs followed that logic alone, they would never start making games for the next generation of consoles. The PS3 is flopping hard in japan and this is good move by Capcom, good for gamers and good for the game.
“The PS2 comment is true but silly.”
You said you didn’t want it ‘limited in its exposure by the tiny install base’. Well the Wiis install base of 3.5m is tiny compared to the PS2s 20m.
“If devs followed that logic alone, they would never start making games for the next generation of consoles.”
They have obviously decided they don’t want to make a next gen version because they are releasing on the Wii. Apart from a bit of motion control it wont offer anything a PS2 version wouldn’t. How a machine that used PS2 ports for launch titles can be considered next gen is beyond me.
“The PS3 is flopping hard in japan”
If it was selling slowly and there was nothing on the horizon looking like changing that I would agree with you but demand for it and the games due on it is extremely high so it isn’t ‘flopping’ at all, its just off to a slow start. I believe that on the Famitsu list of Japanese gamers top 20 most eagerly awaited games the PS3 has more exclusives than any other console. In fact I think it had 4 games in the top 5.
“They have obviously decided they don’t want to make a next gen version because they are releasing on the Wii.”
You’re killing me over here norby, please stop. I can’t take it. I’m literally out of my chair laughing.
You should be careful or gaming will pass you by, don’t get stuck in the past.
The japanese recognize a good thing in the Wii, as does the rest of the world.
Monster Hunter 3 doesn’t mean that much, but when you add it to the list of exclusive the PS3 is losing, you recognize that its flopping. A lot of highly desireable games are slated for the PS3, sure, but Monster Hunter was like #5 on that list, and now where is it? Not on the PS3. That future PS3 games list just keeps getting smaller my friend. Reality is a cruel task master.
This game comming for wii does mean it will sell alot more than it would on the ps3. Anyone who thinks otherwise is in for a rude shock when it goes on sale.
Further more it means that the ps3 will even loose any sale rises it would have has.
The wii is kinda going to have a huge victory next year. With mario game comming out all over the first quarter next year sales will rise rise rise! Just when things may calm down square enix will have a load of games come out.
Sony has final fantasy XIII…unless sony is failing so much by then that square will change platforms to the 360…but to be honest square dosent have to worry about console sales…as they make them.
Aanyway next year is great for nintendo as this news means that nintendo has a brighter future than sony in both the DS and wii consoles than sony could dream of.
this is just stupid not meaning just what capcom did but what you people comenting. has any one looked at the console usage polls? wii is the least played 67% of the overall wii ownders have not played their wii in the last 3-5 months. its just colecting dust. the rest of the persentage is japan mostly.
face it the remote makes all the games feel like the same game. And the wii forcuses more on young children and females the most. out of the most wanted electronic devices for xmas ps3 and xbos was on the male side female siade was only wii.
now for capcom its stupid they did this. they may as well put it on the wii and port it to ps2 cause ps2 can handle wii graphics they could make more money that way if they are so concern with dev cost.
the 360 could use it as well.
as for next year sales cost. thanks to microsoft paying of devs to delay or posbly buy the games away froom the ps3 has caused most of the most wanted ps3 tittles to be delead to next year. but this is a good thing for sony. cause thansk to the delays sony will have the biggets line of of the most wanted games and big games comeing one after another. such games as littlebigplanet,gta4,mgs4,heavyrain,teeken6, and so on.
bach to wii useage ask your friends who own a wii if they been playing their wii much I bet most have not. there is more hardcore gamers then casual.
Crow: “out of the most wanted electronic devices for xmas ps3 and xbox was on the male side female side was only wii.”
Personally I would love to have a PS3 for Christmas! It is more than just a gaming system and considering the fact that I already own a Wii and a 360, I need to complete my collection.
Stephany makes a good point. Crow on the other hand, doesn’t.
Capcom have issued an apology to fans in this months issue of Famitsu after they were made aware of the PS3 owners who had bought a PS3 because they had announced Monster Hunter was being released on it.
Monster Hunter 3 will be released on the Wii first but will probably not be exclusive. Capcom have said there will be future announcements tre guarding PS3 versions of Monster Hunter.
Lets face it. YOur all dicks. Except a few of u. There is nothin wrong with the Wii, or the PSP or the 360 or the PS3 (although it is a little expensive)

Lol Monster HUnter freedom 2 is the best one because its multiplayer capacity and its extensive gameplay.
