Monopoly: The Movie

Yesterday, we posted a fake trailer for a Minesweeper movie, to which one reader commented that there was a very real Monopoly movie in the works. I have to admit, I was skeptical myself until that same reader was kind enough to send us an article talking about that movie. And, to further the insanity, it looks like the movie will be helmed by famed “Alien” and “Gladiator” director, Ridley Scott, who recently spoke with the L.A. Times about the project:
“Monopoly is still the most popular board game — I might be misquoting! — in the world. So it’s really finding the universe for that game. Because clearly it ought to be humorous and for the family — the funny way it brings out, particularly when your uncle suddenly gets Park Lane and — in England, we have Park Lane, Mayfair and Barclay Square, what’s it in America? Park and Madison? So you watch people change. You’re witness to Jekyll and Hyde. Somewhere in that is a hysterically amusing and I think rather exciting film.”
You know how I can tell a movie concept is a bad idea? When it sounds like a joke I would make; a bad one at that. On the plus side, maybe this will open the industry up to my existential art film based on “Trivial Pursuit.”
Thanks to Joel!

I’ll try to hold judgement until I see it…but that’s going to be hard…very very hard.
I still can’t get that scene in Ace Ventura 2 out of my head:
“IT’S THE MONOPOLY GUY! …thanks for the free parking…”
After ruining our superheroes they’re after our board games now? Is there nothing to stop Hollywood from completly destroying our childhood memories?
Well it could be worse. Imagine if they do a sequel? Let’s be honest, there are HUNDRED’S of variation’s out there. I can see it now,
“Monopoly 2: Return of the Star Wars Version”
this will be the crapiest movie of all time
ill watch it for an hour and say fuck it and quit
