Money Issues Kill GoldenEye on Xbox Live Arcade

Commenters didn’t seem to lend much credence to the possibility of Rare’s GoldenEye 007 being ported to Xbox Live Arcade. As the Quartermann reports in the February issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, GoldenEye was indeed in the works, but fell apart on the brink of release. Insert sad face.
1UP goes into more detail on what happened and, sadly, money was the main factor in killing off the game. The port had been in development for months at Rare and would have essentially been a straight port, but with the addition of Xbox Live multiplayer. Some of the game’s characters would be cut due to licensing issues with the actors, but that certainly seems like a concession that gamers would be perfectly contempt with in return for online multiplayer.
A source at Rare revealed that the game was just two months from release, but a disagreement between Microsoft and Nintendo over whether Nintendo would receive a one-time fee or a cut of the game’s revenue.
The best – and the only, really – way we’re going to ever see GoldenEye come together is to make a whole lot of noise – contact Microsoft and Nintendo and let ‘em have it!

hm…
nice XboX
This is byti!
Saw this comming a mile away. Nintendo will probably release it on the VC with online play in a few months
Nintendo can’t release for VC it either without Microsoft/Rare approval, damn shame, could’ve just released for both, no money issues that way as everyone makes money then.
Nintendo could release it for VC without microsoft/rare approval, they’d only need MGMS approval.
This is because Rare cannot develop current gen games for competing consoles.
1. Rare wouldn’t be developing it, it’s already made
2. It’s already friggin’ made.
@Rorkimaru: What planet are you living on? Since when did Nintendo release a VC title with online play? I’ve been waiting for online play with VC titles since last year when I first got my Wii. I refuse to pay for VC titles until they get online play.
He must be talking about the game with online play on WiiWare along with other games.
“but that certainly seems like a concession that gamers would be perfectly contempt with in return for online multiplayer.”
I think you mean content.
