The Minnesota Zoo has sent out word that the long awaited sequel to its eduweb game, WolfQuest, should be making an appearance this spring. Episode 2 is tentatively titled “Slough Creek” after the area in Yellowstone Park that wolves settle in to raise their pups each Spring.
The first part of the game is an introduction to wolf ecology. You learn to hunt as well as to communicate with other wolves and find a mate. Episode 2, will be based on raising pups and should be ready by Spring 2009.
WolfQuest online multiplayer has it’s own cult following. Players form packs, vying for dominance to become the Alpha. They protect their territory and learn to coordinate hunts as a pack. The online community provides wolf enthusiasts a forum to share their interests and art work as well as communicate with wolf biologists.
This Fall our family took a trip to Wolf Park in Battle Ground, Indiana to see the real thing in action. I was very impressed that the game paralleled the behavior of the pack at Wolf Park so well. I have high expectations for Episode 2.
