Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg Says that PlayStation Home is Sooooo 2005
By Stephany on Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at 9:28 AM PST In Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games, Microsoft, Microsoft, Sony, Sony
The open beta for PlayStation Home starts today, and while not expected to launch completely until next year it has already drawn some raided eyebrows, especially from Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg– who as we all know is one to always speak his mind with no qualms about the reaction to it. His recent criticism of Sony’s PlayStation Home is no exception, and as a matter of fact he thinks it is outdated.
Speaking with Kotaku, Greenberg stated that Home looks like Second Life for hardcore gamers without broadening the players experience or inviting them in:
“What Home to me feels like is Second Life for hardcore gamers. It doesn’t feel like it broadens the experience and invites people in. When they unveiled it, it seemed innovative. I think what’s happened is now here we are a couple of years later and we feel beyond that. It feels like 2005 tech in 2008. I’m not sure that’s what people want.”
He also went on to say that he feels there is still a “huge gap” between what Xbox Live can offer gamers compared to Sony and while Sony’s service is free, Microsoft will not be cutting the subscription prices for member because they are “”willing to pay for the premium experience”.
Anyone else getting sick to death of Microsoft constantly trying to remind people that they are superior to Sony and berating everything they do? Between that and the back and forth between fanboys for each system, it sometimes makes me wish I did not own an Xbox 360.

I agree 100% Steph
PC FTW.
~Death Dream~
Your right, Sony never talks about how they are superior….. ever.
It just Microsoft.
Screw them for having any type of pride in their system and thinking its better. They should not. They should just work on it, and think its the worst. Pride is a sin afterall.
Makes me wish you did not own a 360 either.
While I own all current generation of systems, and therefore cannot be considered a “fanboy.” I have to say that I am more than just a little dissappointed in what Sony has brought to the table this generation.
Rumor is that the download for Home is 4 GB and MANY people are complaining in online blogs and other sites that the PSN network keeps going down and killing their downloads mid-stream. I don’t know this for sure but I will see how it is when I get home this evening.
After being such a mega powerhouse in the PS2-era I just thought Sony would come out swinging in the PS3-era and so far all I got for my $400 is a glorified Blu-Ray player. Sony is consistantly like 10 steps behind everyone else this generation and it is really sad. I was proud to say I owned a PS2….not so much with the PS3….I tell everyone I bought it because it was a cheap Blu Ray player, which it is.
I’m sorry but that is how I feel. I play tons of movies on my PS3 but not so many games. And it is supposed to be a GAMING system…..
Go Marlins!!!!
“There is nothing worse than a cranky Stephany – except maybe a rabid badger.”
I’d go for that rabid badger right about now.
I never said Sony did not ever toot their own horn, it is just that Microsoft does it more– mainly Aaron. It is good to have pride in your products, but being a constant braggart gets old fast no matter who you are and can ruin a good time for all.
What’s with the sony and microsoft dudes speaking shit? They should let me take their place. 10 years old kid would do better….
He’s obviously overcompensating, with the amount of smack he talks.
@ ManOfTeal
Why do you keep telling people that Home is 4gb? Are you fucking retarded?
Its 78mb
@Norbit
I said it was a “Rumor” dickhead….STFU nobody listens to your bullshit anyway.
I’m sorry that your only friends live in the computer but that is not a reason to take it out on me….now go fuck yourself.
Go Marlins!!!!
WTF? The dude who would choose a sick woodland creature over a hawt gamer chick has some serious issues. Other than that, Greenberg pisses me off 90% of the time he opens his chubby mouth. He is in serious need of some decorum.
This is exactly what you posted on the other thread:
“Just FYI to anyone trying to download Home. Apparently PSN is going up and down and people are having a real hard time downloading the 4 GB file needed to install Home.”
No mention of it being a rumour there
You only added the rumour tag on this thread because you knew what you were posting wasnt true because I had already told you on the other thread. You are pathetic.
I find it hilarious that you describe what I write as bullshit when its pretty much always right or at the very least relevant to the topic while you pretty much entirely post ranting hatred and lies
While Aaron is a complete idiot, and needs to learn how to speak without insulting millions of people, what he says here isn’t that far off the truth.
I mean, what is Home? What will it do for the gaming community? I don’t own a PS3, nor do I see the need to, especially when the biggest thing they’ve got this holiday season is Home.
I demand proof that Stephany is “hawt”
How a company like microsoft, that is responsible for most PC users using a OS that is so buggy it would drive on a beache, can insult another company is byond me!
Maybe the PS3 is not quit as good, butat least the company behind it isnt as retarded as the one behind the X-Box!
@Desmo
Steph is a redhead and a gamer. She’s funny and insightful. Though I’ve never seen anything more of her than that small picture, I believe Steph is hot.
@ManOfTeal,
I can’t believe I’m saying this: I’m siding with Norbit on that one. I haven’t seen that rumour posted anywhere. If it was then it was some fanboy. BTW, whats your PSN id?
Why is Live service on the Games for Windows platform free while we have to pay for Xbox live? It’s not “willingness!”
If Sony didn’t suck then M$ wouldn’t have to bash them all the time.
My PC > My 360 > Pile of sticks in my yard > PS3 that I’ll never own.
@Norbit
Ok you want proof you son of a bitch here is the link to Gamespot’s site where the commenters are discussing the download and if you look at the first bucnh of poster’s comments and towards the middle too…..you will see that people were complaining about the download crashing on them. And some mention that the download is 4 GB but they are wrong it is only 77 MB but Home does require a 4 GB commitment out of your hard drive to run.
Here is the link:http://www.gamespot.com/news/6202161.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;2
I stated in an earlier comment on this article that this was a “rumor” and I also used the word “appaerently” in another artice of the quote you posted….now to most educated people that means that I am not sure if that is true or not and if you weren’t such a fucking asshole Norbit who likes to put words in peoples mouths you would know that…..now again go fuck yourself.
@Sk8man
My PPSN ID is ManOfTeal just like my Xbox Live Gamertag is. What’s yours?
Go Marlins!!!!
It’s Sk8man, we should game sometime.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but XBOX live doesn’t and won’t hold a candle to Playstation Home. XBOX 360 is done. Dead horse…Move on. Enjoy your HD DVD players…noobs.
Oh yeah, feel free to flame me knowing that I’ll never come back to check this post.
…and you’re fat.
I would have to disagree with Tapewormz. Xbox 360 is far from done. I also agree with Manofteal. I also have movies and a few games for PS3, but its a glorified Bluray player for now. I was going to get a game for christmas for it.
Is littlebigplanet worth it? I have COD5 for 360. so a game for the PS3 is better than how it sits now. Collecting dust! While my Xbox 360 is used more often.
I havent tried Home yet. i may try that to dust off the PS3. its sad for such a great system. like CNN stayed its a sinking ship. but i have to disagree, it just needs more time.
