Microsoft announced that they are cutting the price of the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player from $199 to $179 and throwing in 5 movies. This should be good news for the HD camp, considering Blu-Ray has continually picked up speed over the past few months. The release of “300″ from Warner Brothers is also a positive move for HD-DVD. I’d honestly have to say that Blu-Ray is winning the battle in nearly every category, so don’t expect this to be the last of the price cuts for HD. High definition capabilities is really a must have these days for any movie enthusiast. There definitely are still bonuses to each format, but HD-DVD has a long way to go if they want to recapture any momentum.

One thing that could swing things easily would be if George Lucas ever decides to release the Star Wars franchise on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. Lucas claims they have no plans to do so, but they also said that about releasing the original trilogy (I mean original, not the stuff on the special editions) on DVD.

SAN DIEGO, July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Today at Comic-Con International 2007, Microsoft Corp. announced it will lower the price of the popular Xbox 360(TM) HD DVD Player from $199 to $179 ERP (United States only) starting Aug. 1, 2007, and will add five free HD DVD movies for anyone purchasing an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30. In addition, Microsoft further solidified the Xbox 360 as the ultimate high-definition (HD) entertainment platform, with key announcements around the HD DVD launches of “300″ from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group and “Heroes: Season 1″ from Universal Studios.

Yes that is true and it’s only HDMI 1.2 not HDMI 1.3.

Sorry that $1999 price was a typo. It has since been corrected.

@decline, ya you sure can, but the quality takes a nose dive when comparing it to HDMI

VGA is good enough for me. For now at least. =\

Price cut still isn’t enough to make me want to buy it. I’d shell out $150 at most and only if i would be able to get it installed internally. Last thing I need is another box clogging my set up.
