Microsoft Working with Toshiba on HD-DVD 360

According to Toshiba insiders, Microsoft is working with the company on developing an HD-DVD 360 with a large hard drive and new entertainment software that is a spin off from its struggling media center offering.
The new Xbox 360 is a response to the PS3 driving sales in several countries because it is both a video game console and a Blu-ray player.
The new Xbox will function as an entertainment hub that includes gaming and extensive wireless networking capability as well as 1080p playback. There’s speculation that it will include a dual HD TV tuner and EPG capability and a docking port for an MP3 player.
For Toshiba, the new Xbox is critical if it is to be successful in beating Sony and the Blu-ray promoters.
A senior Toshiba executive in Singapore told SmartHouse that “An Xbox with a built in HD DVD drive is critical. They and we are working on it. It also has to be more than a gaming machine. Microsoft recognise this. A version of the device may also be sold under the Toshiba brand name”.

2 years too late
Not 2 years too late, just right on time to put the final nail in the BS3 coffin….
Such a device would be very useful, because it would obviously be able to work as a DVR, HD-DVD, and gaming console. But it wouldn’t be a 360 anymore. It might be able to play 360 games, but it becomes a different beast simply due to the inclusion of the HD-DVD drive, which has the potential to further segment the gaming market.

It wont be released for at least another year dipshit which is far too late to stop BluRay which is what its apparently intended for.
i love games and movies and the ps3 is very disapointing to me.
blu ray seems ok but i will never buy a ps3
Very disapointing in what way? Compared to what?
Saying ‘i love games’ and ‘i will never buy a ps3′ in the same sentence means you are a bit of a dick to say the least because you have absolutely no idea of what will be released on it or how it will fare over the next 5-10 years.
So in 6 years time if it has a back catalogue of some of the greatest games ever made and a price tag of $100 you still wont buy it? You dont love games then do you, you love Bill Gates.
They should really offer free upgrades! Yeah, so I’m just cheap and have a noisy, lucky-not-to-have-a-Red-Ring-of-Death 360. But still, the 360 has always been good, but if they release HD-DVD games and my 360 won’t play them, so long, Microsoft. I always preferred Linux to Windows, so why not the Wii to 360. Twilight Princess is pretty good looking.
Toshiba have point blank denied this. Not just a ‘no comment’ either because they even point out that Microsoft are against doing it so the rumours obviously rubbish.
“It’s got nothing to do with us. But we know Microsoft doesn’t want to include the HD DVD drive so as not to limit the user’s experience.”
Norbit, why are you a dick? Who cares if he likes Microsoft. Both of these companies are here to make money. Not make you happy. If you believe differently, you are a tool.
