The Xbox 360 Arcade SKU has been on a wild ride. There were rumors it was coming for months alongside other Xbox 360 bundles, which were later confirmed, leaving the Xbox 360 Arcade unannounced. Pictures of it surfaced, and then certain retailers started selling the system before Microsoft even confirmed its existence, leading us to wonder if the system only comes with trial versions of the five Xbox Live Arcade games that would purportedly ship with the system.

Still with me?

Finally, we’ve gotten some official word, as the head of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices division, Robbie Bach, has made a statement to The Financial Times confirming the Xbox 360 Arcade.

“Arcade becomes [for us] the ability to bring in a new set of audiences. They’re probably a little bit more casually focused, they’re looking for a new family experience or they’re more price focused,” Bach said.

Well, it’s nice to know that the things people have already been purchasing do actually exist.
