Microsoft Slashing Vista Prices Soon

Alongside the release of Service Pack 1, Microsoft will be cutting the price of Vista in more than 70 countries. The US will see Vista Ultimate fall from $399 to $319 and the upgrade will drop from $259 to $219. Vista Home Premium will drop from $159 to $129.
According to Reuters, Vista accounted for less than 10% of all Windows purchases, both in store and online. Microsoft corporate VP Brad Brooks said, “We anticipate these changed will provide greater opportunities … to sell more stand-alone copies of Windows.”
Microsoft will continue to sell Windows XP until this June, so Vista price cuts were inevitably going to happen by then.
Seeing as I already have Vista Ultimate on my desktop, this doesn’t really impact me much. While I like it (I’ve been fairly lucky in terms of compatibility), I don’t see any reason to upgrade my XP-running laptop, because unless you really plan to take advantage of Vista’s features (DX10 and the like), there’s just no reason to do it.

Make it open source so people fix it for you, M$.
No kidding! They should give this crap away.
They would have to pay me to use it.
Not worth it at any price. I just couldn’t take Vista’s bloated crap on my laptop. Vista runs slower than the XP on my five-year old desktop. Why, Microsoft, why? I installed Ubuntu (easily) alongside Vista, and now I use that almost all the time. Vista must be the worst OS since First Edition Win ‘98, or maybe Win ME. I’m expecting Vista 2 to come out quite quickly.
Vista ain’t bad if you got the right hardware, nubs. ^
Most of you are probably basing it off what others said instead of actually trying it yourself.
1. If you have the right hardware for Vista (everything compatible) then you should probably run windows xp so you get to enjoy that hardware, or if you know enough about Linux, Ubuntu or DSL.
2. I had the beta for Vista and it didn’t have my soundcard drivers, so I never used it. I wanted to enjoy playing my steam games in x64 bit, but without sound what is the point?
3. I work in tech support. Vista is a nightmare. You have to install telnet.. I’m going to type that again, so you understand.. YOU HAVE TO INSTALL A BASIC FEATURE… why doesn’t it come installed? Bill only knows. Not only that, but it takes a half hour just to do it.
4. “Windows has detected an operation that could be a security risk, press ok if you started this operation” yes… run internet explorer plz…
5. YOU NEED A 3D GRAPHICS CARD TO RUN AERO.. which.. does.. what.. really?
I got Vista. Had it for a half year. Never used aero. Good perfomance (my computer is good), 0 crashes, 0 driver issues, 0 problems with games, 0 problems with programs I have used/installed, 2 problems with interface/something, 1 fixed after searching settings and other one is just annoying. I don’t know if vista sucks or not but I had much more problems with xp and for some weird reason, vista was installed in much shorter time, I don’t know why.
Just a quick comment in response to another comment: if you install Vista on a 5 year old machine of course it isn’t going to work right. That’s like trying to install XP on a 10 or 15 year old machine!
Considering Microsoft makes all their software ridiculously priced, all I can say is that I’m glad Vista is going down in price, and I’m glad I decided to wait to buy until after SP1. Vista has become very stable in recent months, and SP1 beta testers say its a huge improvement. I’ve had to help friends with their Vista machines and as the OS has continued to improve, I’ve less and less frequently had to help them troubleshoot issues.
Vista is on gd on the 32bit version at the moment which rather annoys somepeople. I had it on a 1.8 duo laptop and it ran fine as it would do on xp of course there is alot of annoyence but it was just the same with xp tryin to install the god almighty thing when it first came out i will change to vista in the near future when they sort out the problems with 64bit version.
Dont push it to hard.
Vista = Dookie. If it was under 100$ I’d might consider getting it, bit nah I’ll pass on getting it though.
