Microsoft Responds to Bungie Split Rumours

Microsoft has done everything but deny rumors that it will be relinquishing control of Halo developer Bungie.
“There’s been no such announcement,” a spokesperson told us. “We continue to celebrate the tremendous success of the global phenomenon that is Halo 3.”
The source of the rumor is an unsubstantiated statement in a blog linked to the Seattle Post-Intelligence, as heard from an unidentified friend of a “friend in the know.” The author of the post, Jacob Metcalf claims Bungie is fed up with only working on Halo games and separation is imminent.
Metcalf has no evidence to back up this claim and isn’t a member of the usually reliable Seattle Post-Intelligence newspaper, which has consistently maintained a distance from user-posted information in blogs.
Microsoft and Bungie are both reaping the rewards of the highly successful Halo 3 launch. It’s hard to believe the companies’ working relationship has deteriorated so far. Additionally Microsoft owns the developer as well so a seperation would be complicated at best.
However, it is a bit strange that neither Microsoft nor Bungie is moving to emphatically deny this rumor.

He doesn’t deny it though!
I really agree with Bungie. If they’re forcing them to only make Halo games, they should leave. That’s ridiculous.
Bungie is a great company. They shouldn’t be chained to grinding out the same thing every so many years.
If MS wants to continue milking Halo, give it some other developer. There are plenty of them out there that could do the job of more of the same.

Looks less rumorish now. Go Bungie Go!
