Microsoft Finally Offering Freebies With Xbox Repairs?

Microsoft has been struggling for awhile now to wipe the stink of the “Red Rings of Death” controversy off of them. The biggest of these was when they announced they were extending the warranty on all Xbox 360 consoles. And now it seems they’re including some extra “sorry, our bad” freebies in systems they send back to owners after being repaired or replaced. One guy by the name of AJ Borden says when he received a newly refurbished system along with a one-month renewal card for an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership. He also says that the repairs took 25 days, and that this was the sixth system he’s sent in, though this is the first time he received anything extra. I suppose that just makes up for the month lost on Xbox LIVE due to the repairs, but it’s still better than nothing.

I have had my system fixed 2x both times i got a 1month live card.. But last time i also got a new power brick with it.. still wrapped in packageing.. i found that odd.
could some one please enlighten me as to what actually makes 360’s suffer from the RRoD.
the thing is, my 360 has got it, and ive been waiting for microsh*t to pick it up since september, and i am getting so sick of waiting, im thinking “f**k it, get a new one”.
the only catch is that ive heard that the RRoD problem is caused by a virus on ur HD and i’m paranoid that if i plug the HD i’ve got with my gamesaves ETC on it into a new console, that’ll get the RRoD.
any help will be much appreciatted
