Gavel and HundredsMicrosoft announced today that it has filed a lawsuit against Immersion, a company who creates tactile feedback technology for game controllers.

You might recall that back in 2002, Immersion sued Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft reached a settlement agreement with Immersion in 2003. That settlement required Microsoft to pay $26 million to Immersion for licensing rights and a stake in the company. However, Microsoft said today that Immersion hasn’t lived up to their end of that settlement, including a provision that required Immersion to pay Microsoft “based on certain business and IP licensing arrangements.”

Microsoft Associate General Counsel Steve Aeschbacher said in a statement, “We entered into a binding licensing agreement with Immersion and are seeking to have that agreement honored. Microsoft licenses technology both in and out and relies on these agreements to be honored and enforced. Our request to the court is that all companies and industry partners should play by the same rules and that the binding agreement we signed with Immersion be honored.”
