Microsoft Dropping Bizarre Seinfeld Ads

This may not necessarily be gaming news, but I’m sure it’s something we all can appreciate. You’ve probably seen those strange new Microsoft ads featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld; and like most people, you probably stared at your TV screen for a few moments in bewilderment before declaring loudly, “What the hell was that?” Considering these were touted earlier as Microsoft’s response to Apple’s “Mac Guy vs. PC Guy” ads — which have taken on a life of their own at this point — the new commercials fell pretty short of expectations. So it should probably come as no surprise that Microsoft has now announced that they will be dropping the ads altogether. Instead they’ll be moving into “phase two” of their strategy, which is set to be announced next week. Of course, their spin on the news is that they always intended to drop Seinfeld from the ads, with Frank Shaw of Waggener Edstrom saying:
“People would have been happier if everyone loved the ads, but this was not unexpected.”
Let me see if I’ve got this straight, MS: your big plan was to spend millions of dollars to bring a comedian out of retirement for a couple of ads that you figured people wouldn’t like? That’s like telling a cop that it’s okay you crashed your car into a lamp post, because you meant to do it.

These ‘ads’ are apparently supposed to show us that Bill Gates and FAGFELD are just like us and normal. Or something. But they’re not. Fagfeld is a dick.
