Microsoft CEO: Red Ring of Death Loss Is Painful

Losing $1 billion would be painful, indeed, and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer expressed exactly those sentiments in a meeting with financial analysts yesterday.
“We have to learn from our mistakes. It was painful to announce the write-off that we had to announce, and yet we knew we had to take care of our customers,” Ballmer said in the Seattle PI article. He promised that Microsoft will be “world-class when we do hardware.”
I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but it is rather strange to realize that one of the largest manufacturers of computer hardware managed to screw up so badly. Oh well, hopefully their “world class” hardware will be covered by “world class” service. And literally so, as their customer support is in India.
Luckily for Microsoft, the $60 million in Windows Vista sales has helped them turn a profit, despite all of this Xbox 360 rancor. Yes, all of you out there crying for Microsoft’s woes need not worry too much.
