The Playstation 3 works great as a Blu-Ray player, but using the controller with the movies can be a little cumbersome. That’s why several third-party companies have been working on remotes for the system, such as Messiah’s Darklite DVD remote. The front of the remote provides the more basic functions, like play and stop, but the face can also slide down to reveal more buttons. There’s also a built-in rechargeable battery, which connects to a base hooked up to a USB slot on the system. The one drawback is that the remote uses IR through a receiver in the base, meaning you have to have a clear shot at it to get a signal. At $30, it’s pretty cool-looking, though Sony’s Bluetooth-enabled remote would probably work better. Still, Messiah is taking pre-orders now and is expecting to ship the remote on September 25.
