Master P and “Robot Chicken” Creators Team Up for a Video Game

Well-known rapper Master P is apparently in talks with “Robot Chicken” creators, Seth Green and Mathew Senreich, over the production of a video game called “Play the Industry.” The game will allow players to take on the role of a someone in the music industry — an agent, a studio owner, etc. — and work their way up by managing artists, music licenses, and such. Seenreich has likened the game to EA’s “The Sims,” but I’d compare it more to “The Movie,” just with hip hop spin.
Master P originally approached Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, with Shadow Machine Films — known for Moral Orel, another Adult Swim staple — with the concept for the game. The two were impressed with the idea and got Green and Senreich’s Stoopid Monkey Productions involved. Campodonico explains:
“Master P is at the forefront of so many new things, including putting out new ‘clean’ albums that are not derogatory and don’t have cursing and that sort of stuff.”
I don’t know if you can be considered at the forefront of much of anything once you’ve been on “Dancing with the Stars,” but this game does sound like it could be pretty fun. The companies are currently working on the game’s script and hoping to line up financing and a developer soon after. They hope to see “Play the Industry” on store shelves by 2009.
With the popularity of hip hop culture these days, I wouldn’t be surprised if this game actually did pretty well for itself. Also if this game gains even a little success, I’d be willing to bet the expansion’s title will involve the word “remix” and some involvement by P. Diddy.
