i think master chief should be in the movie depending on the scene. i would love to be in the movie but i’m only 11.

After reading all the Halo novels released, so far, I’ve slowly but surely come to realize that regardless how hard Master Chief (S-117) brings the awesome, he really is just a small part of the vast universe Bungie has created with Halo. “Contact Harvest” was a great story completely devoid of any Spartan involvement. I think that would be a good starting point for a series of movies. Let’s face it, I think I speak on behalf of all Halo fans out there when I say I want more than one movie in the long-run. Another good story to bring to the screen, in my humble opinion, would be along the lines with “The Fall of Reach”. Maybe not necessarily go all the way through it, but linger more on the Spartan program and ultimately tell the tale of who and what our hero REALLY is. To those who have only played the games he’s probably just some schmuck with fancy armor that enhances his physical prowess. For those who have gone a little farther than that and read the book he’s SO much more. I don’t know, the possibilities are legion. All I can say in the end is that I’m glad I’m not assigned the task of deciding what story to go with and adapting it for the screen. I just hope it rocks my face clean off. UNSCDF, fools!!1

And if they do it that way, it will be the success of the movie. The fact that it’s different from the norm like other movies that surprised by their diverging from the norm.

From a writer’s perspective, I sort of guessed this is how it would/should go… From when they announced a Halo movie, I thought about how, though he is incredibly awesome, Master Chief isn’t much of a character at all. You can’t make him the main character. Instead, you should have a protagonist with Master Chief as his supporting character. This doesn’t mean that Master Chief wouldn’t steal every scene that he was in (it would be obvious that MC would probably have more balsy action attributed to himself), but the story itself just can’t revolve around Master Chief. I love Halo, but Halo fans need to understand that Master Chief is, at best, a great avatar for the player to experience the world of Halo as. But you’d need someone else to be your main character; someone who would be in awe of the things that Master Chief is capable of. I guess in american storytelling, we don’t usually look at things this way, since our heroes are Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger… they usually ARE the indestructable badasses who take everyone down themselves. But I think if they are serious about making a Halo movie, they would have to change that.

I’m not sure if this is right or not. The last time I checked, Staten wasn’t involved in the writing process for the movie. I could be wrong though.

I just read the Harvest Halo Book, and if that is the story they were going to make into a movie, it makes sense that Master Chief would not be in it, because the Master Chief wasn’t even in the book! It tells the story of the beginning of Halo – how humans and the covenant go to war. This preceedes the creation of the Spartans and precedes Master Chief. The main character in the book is Staff Srgnt Avery Johnson.

Well, I can imagine a good idea would be to have some sort of telling of the original Halo activation use, before moving to ‘modern day’ and even then, Master Chief didn’t always have the most exciting adventures…surely?

Still, I’m game.
