Mass Effect to Have a Lesbian Sex Scene

By Jonathan on Tuesday, September 18th, 2007 at 4:52 PM PST In Bioware, Mass Effect, Microsoft

It seems the upcoming action-RPG, Mass Effect, with its branching storyline and subplots, will allow the player to initiate a lesbian sex scene. According to the BBFC’s breakdown of their classification for the game, they designated a rating of “12″ based on “moderate violence,” a couple of naughty words, and one sex scene:

“The single sex scene is brief and undetailed, although there is breast nudity in one version of the scene. The sex scene is triggered by the player making a series of choices about becoming more than friends with a colleague. If playing as a male character the scene can take place between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien. If playing as a female character the scene can take place between her and a male human or a female humanoid alien.”

BioWare’s Jade Empire and KOTOR outings had the possibility for girl-on-girl loving as well, but it was mostly contained to a few amorous conversations. I guess this game will let you go the extra Bill Shatner and get it on with an alien. Although, when they say “humanoid female alien,” I really hope they don’t mean something like this:

What are you talking about?! I hope the scene IS as above

To be honest, I don’t think this should be news worthy, but it does show a world that still doesn’t quite accept the fact that there is more than one way to behave ’sexually’. One day, we’ll get there…

  2. weclock says:

This is plain retarded. I am now highly uninterested in Mass Effect.

  3. Daniel says:

Mental note: I must play as a female. I don’t care if my stats aren’t the best, it’ll be well worth it to get to this scene.

Ahh, who am I kidding, I’ll probably go with a male character and wait for some poor soul to upload the lesbian sex scene on YouTube. You know it’ll happen eventually.

  4. Shawn Sines says:

FOr those who don;t know it from reading about the background of the setting the humanoid female I believe is from an androgynous race that is technically both sexes and therefore not actually a true “gay” or homosexual situation.

  5. weclock says:

Wow, I actually forgot ‘homosexuality’ was an issue for some people.

  6. Joelteon7 says:

Well the fact there is a rating point for it, apparently it still is. It’ll be like that for a heck of a long time as well, unfortunately. Regardless, considering I just got a 360, I think I’ll be inclined to definitely look into this game; it will certainly help the dull till the Mario trilogy comes out! (No, that doesn’t mean you Sonic and Mario at the Olympics!)

Good, don’t buy the game. Tell yourself and everyone else that you’re not going to buy the game. Announce it on your blog or your diary or wherever others can read about it because we all care if you buy the game or not. This should even be posted as news on this website!

WECLOCK WILL NOT BE BUYING MASS EFFECT! HE’S UNINTERESTED! SALES WILL BE DOWN!…

  8. Joseph says:

Some are too daft for sarcasm…

  9. somewhat says:

Wow, that was sarcasm with a sledgehammer !

  10. somewhat says:

Now I wonder about the hoopla and what rating it would have gotten if it was 2 men instead ? I think they’d probably pick it up on CNN and BBC, and somehow tie in violence to the thread.

  11. Gamerush says:

man this world has gone to hell…

  12. nERVEcenter says:

    My extremely manly view:

    Male homosexuality: bad.

Female homosexuality: the best thing to come along since the penis.

  13. Snark says:

I am pretty sure they should tag a child’s foot with a rating when he’s born, just so he/she knows that they’re in for a life that may have violence, sex, or hetero/homosexuality.

Then, we can eliminate all the ratings and rantings altogether. We’ve already warned them.

This seems to pique my interest as far as gaming and politics go.

“Senator Obama, how do you feel about the lesbian sex scene in Mass Effect?”

    “BOOM! HEADSHOT!”

And remember: “The sex scene is triggered by the player making a series of choices about becoming more than friends with a colleague”

It all depends on how you play your character(s). If you aren’t interested in having a relationship with another character, then thats fine and your choice.

Joelton I agree with your first comment. The real problem has to do with people rooted too deeply in traditions. I’ll be honest, I grew up with a lot of preconceptions about the world, but then I joined the Army when I was 17 and got to see a lot of life without the influence of others and started to realize that as a society, we have made very little progress towards the idea of freedom.

I really believe democracy and freedom are simply concepts that are not even close to becoming real. I do continually challenge myself every day to look at things from more angles and to try not to make definitive statements too often. I’m definitely a supporter of whatever they are doing with this game. It’s great to challenge people to think about random situations that they wouldn’t have thought about as much in the past of gaming.

  18. Bone says:

Pyeah right. What game geek actually plays as the male?

  19. havoc of smeg says:

without wanting to sound sleazy, but this may be fun and very interesting!
after all, its not exactly in every game, after all.

at least it shows people are beconing more open minded on this sort of thing.

  20. steven says:

well I just played it and I didn’t get to a scene with intimacy with part of the crew but I did get to have a scene with the asari consort (asari=all female alien race) but no full body scenes. I played as the man though.
