What you said I agree with almost entirely. The game is pretty much a re-dressed KOTOR (the plot devices are different, but the same. I think Yahtzee puts this point forward best in his review about Bioshock and comparing it to System Shock 2). That’s not to dissurn the game as being bad, because it is most definitely one of the best games I’ve played. I’ve said that a lot this year, first when I got my mits on Twilight Princess, but this really is a perfect game.

Being a gameplay preferer over graphics, I’m amazed at how the latter has not overrun the former. The graphics are simply stunning and the best I’ve seen to date on any game. Everything is richly detailed and fits in and the colours are spectacular. Climing to the top of a peak on an alien planet in the Mako, with the camera angle in a sideways on position with a rising sun or the stars behind the vehicle is actually worthy of putting the controller down and just watching.

The gameplay mechanics are excellent, although complemented by a few flaws (it took a bit of time till I started manually saving, as autosaving indeedly sucks) and simply blows most other games in shooter and RPG genres out the water.

I’ve been playing it for about 25 hours and not one of those hours has had a minute in where I’ve been bored. In fact, sometimes I land on a barren planet just to give the Mako a run for its money against the terrain.
