Man Treats Car Crash Victim Thanks to Training from America's Army

americasarmylogo1.gifToo often, when video game skills cross into the real world, it’s a bad thing. But every so often a story crops up that shows how gamers put their skills to positive use. Thanks to the medical training sections of the America’s Army game, Paxton Galvanek was able to treat a car crash victim’s injuries. After witnessing an SUV flip several times, he stopped his own car, and dragged two people from the wreck, while his wife called 911. Galvanek then correctly prioritized the injuries and began treating one person’s mangled hand with pressure and elevation. He attributes his quick thinking to the knowledge he gained from playing America’s Army:

I have received no prior medical training and can honestly say that because of the training and presentations within America’s Army, I was able to help and possibly save the injured men. As I look back on the events of that day, the training that I received in the America’s Army video game keeps coming to mind.

It’s nice to see something good come out of that game, particularly since the actual gameplay was utter crap. Still, I don’t think he would’ve acted the same if he’d played one of the Trauma Center games.

    Just like this guy.

  • Norbit says:

What they forgot to mention was that the crash was caused because the driver plays too much Burnout 3

Crap? I really enjoyed AA. Looking forward to the 3.0 release myself. I would like to see a SWAT version, but that's wishful thinking, I know.

The PC version is good. Article must be referring to Xbox 360 version.

Wow, seriously did you even play the PC version?

If you're talking about the xbox version then I agree, but I believe the guy is talking about the PC version since it has all of those medic training sessions.

  • Pablo says:

    Man that´s a hell of a notice.

That guy should be proud of himself for that, I mean is not everyone that will think about the training recieved in the game in an emergency situation, is it?

  • Michael Sanchez says:

America's Army is probably the best objective based combat sim to ever grace the PC. Do the world a favor, Jonathan, quit writing and go back to playing Counter-Strike.

I think it was pretty cool of him to do that alot of people would have keep driving. I have game with Paxton and his AA Clan, they are some cool dudes so cool i joined the clan. For those who are haters, i think it was good to inform others that we gamers are not just a bunch of dummies but people too. AA promotes team work and espirt de corp. I even learn some stuff about the first aid.

    @ Most people:

Do you understand what an opinion is? It'd be like me saying that you can't like AA simply because I'm not going to let you like it…where's the sense in that, eh? If he does't like the gameplay, he doesn't like the gameplay…and insulting him by calling him a CSS player, please

Certainly a more interesting thing to occur. Well, kudos to the rescuer.

Im suprised someone remembered that stuff from the game. I wasnt really paying attention to the tests. Good Job to the guy though.

  • William says:

eh.. I'm a combat veteran and though AA was total ass.. but that's just my opinion. It's nice to see someone getting some good training from a game though.

Funny, all the crap that they taught in the americas army training I learned when I was 12 in Boy Scouts. Are there really people out there that dont already know that they can elevate a limb to slow blood loss?
