Man Arrested for Stalking Girls Through Xbox Live

I’ve been saying Xbox Live is chock full of weirdos, but this one takes the cake so far. In Saratoga Springs, New York, 20-year old Joshua Stetar met a 15-year old girl, who was living in Spokane, Washington, through playing Halo online over a year ago. He apparently found her address online and began sending packages and flowers to her home, all of which her parents returned. He also sent several hundred text messages to her cell phone, which forced her parents to change her number. But he managed to find her new number by “Googling” her and then drove 40 hours straight to her neighborhood. At around 9 pm on Friday, he sent a text message saying that he was driving by her house; her parents in fact saw his car pass by. Then at 9:36, he sent a message reading, “Tell the cops that I’m gonna rape you and your sister.” The girl’s parents called the police, who found Stetar at a nearby motel. After interrogating him, police learned that he had actually visited Spokane earlier and drove by the girl’s house in a rented U-Haul truck, which the girl’s parents were unaware of. He also had apparently been sending numerous text messages to the girl’s cousin, who lives in Billings, Montana, over the summer, until the police called him and told him to stop. He was booked in the Spokane County Jail on one count of felony stalking, but was released on Saturday on bond.
Wow, what a creepy, creepy guy. Let this be a lesson to you kids: Xbox Live is full of freaks and weirdos, so don’t give them your real name or anything. Man, it’s like the new MySpace or something.

Its bad and its getting worse all the time. Kids like this need to protect their information and not be posting personally identifiable shit online. LIVE is not the problem, but it IS a facilitator so kids need to be careful.

kids just need to stay the hell off XBL if you ask me. I would never let my kids play on live without some sort of supervision. They play all their games offline whether they like it or not.
Honestly, stuff like this is rare too, but still something to think about. Usually the kids are the problems on live.

It’s the stupid girl who gave out her information’s fault, not Xbox Lives.
First of all, let me get started by saying that this article reads like it was written by a twelve year old, seriously, jonathan, or whoever you are, get some writing skills.
Second, while occurrences like this are rare, I think it is best for kids to be told not to give their information out. Xbox Live is a great service. I always have a great time online. But I would put up all kinds of parental controls and always be in the room if my -10 kids were playing.
If the girl was 15 then it is her own fault for being so desperate that she needed to resort to giving out her information to older strangers.

Would never have happened if voice & text communication had been set to ‘Friends Only’ in the first place. The single best feature of the Xbox 360 by far. Now I can actually enjoy playing Call of Duty with my friends without interference.

Ummm, please correct the title of this article. The man was not arrested for stalking girls through Xbox Live. Rather, he was more likely arrested for physically stalking the girl and sending threatening messages through a telecommunications device (a federal crime).

but o be honest this story sounds bollocks, where is the sources.??? the story doesnt make sense. and the headline should be “man arrested for stalking girl he MET on xbox live” even if it was true. he didnt “stalk” them on xbox live. if he used google etc to get there number and sent messages on cell phone drove there… none of that stalking is on xbox live. this is just another crappy “shock” story to get hits to his site blogs and stuff don’t fall for it people.

This story is just crazy! there really are some weirdos out there. But to say that everybody that plays on xbox live is weird just because of something one person did is even crazier. You can delude yourself if you think xbox live is full of weirdos, but the reality is: America is full if weirdos. For every story you find me like this that happened outside the US - I’ll find you 1000 that happened in America. Land of the “brave” and home of the FREAKS
