Magic: The Gathering Online Goes Solid State

2inwizards 4c Magic: The Gathering Online Goes Solid StateSolid State Networks announced that Wizards of the Coast will be using its high-performance, low-cost distributed content delivery solutions for the new upcoming Magic: The Gathering Online game. According to GamesIndustry,biz, Wizard’s hopes Solid State will reduce bandwith costs and provide more reliable downloads for players.

“We’re anticipating transferring a tremendous amount of data, hundreds of terabytes in just a few months, as we roll out our new game,” said Jeremy Stoltz, Senior Systems Administrator with Wizards of the Coast. “Solid State has delivered on both the performance and cost benefits we anticipated, with initial tests showing a reduction in bandwidth costs compared to other solutions.”

Stoltz says Magic has been redesigned based on user input with a new user interface and expanded capabilities. Hopefully low delivery costs per-unit costs with the same reliability and quality of service players expect will also translate to savings for gamers in the end.
