Wizards of the Coast has announced that they have begun developing games for the Xbox Live Arcade and PC based on their Magic: The Gathering franchise. Thanks to their recent deals with Stainless Games and Mind Control Software, Wizards of the Coast have begun two games: one for the XBLA and PC, and another for PC and Mac.
“We’re excited to bring the Magic brand to new platforms and give our fans new ways to experience this great property,” said Jared Gustafson, Brand Director for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast. “It’s partnerships like these that will advance the strategy games category and transform it to meet the needs and desires of today’s digital gamers.”
So basically all we know right now is that the game’s going to bear the name “Magic: The Gathering” and be small enough for the Xbox Live Arcade. Odds are, it’s going to be pretty much a video game version of the card game. Let’s just hope WotC doesn’t try and pull another Magic: The Gathering Battlegrounds.

This could be really good, or really bad.
Hopefully its based of the single player Shandalar game that Micropose publised years ago.
I’ll be curious to see how this plays out. I was a big addict of MTGO for a while, but the addiction of purchasing digital cards became too great. I was probably spending $100 a week playing it. I finally sold my digital card collection a couple years back and haven’t checked it out since.
