LOVEFiLM, best known for supplying Europe with DVD rentals through companies such as AOL, Tesco and WHSmith is gearing up for its first major games marketing campaign.
Although LOVEFiLM rents and sells video games through its website, the company’s focus has been on the film industry until now. The company is partnering with Ubisoft to launch a big marketing campaign to coincide with the release of Assassin’s Creed.
Chris Bird, head of marketing services for LOVEFiLM underlined games as a mainstream entertainment medium: “The phenomenal development seen in recent games titles has catapulted them into a league of their own, to the stage where releases are now seen as major events in their own right.”
It seems the entertainment industry is finally starting to take video games more seriously.
Assassin’s Creed launches for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 16 in Europe.
