Xboxer is reporting that the upcoming RPG, Lost Odyssey, will contain around 20 hours worth of cinematics. This is a pretty staggering amount by itself, and it seems ever larger when you consider the full game is supposed to last about 40 hours. Aside from that, the game will also contain a side story in the form of a 34-chapter novel, titles “Dream of 1000 Years.” The game’s creator has also revealed that the game’s original story — a warrior who is sentenced to live 1000 years — will contain one very unoriginal plot device: amnesia. The main character begins the story with no memory, which explains why he also begins the game with no skills.

This may be great news for some enthusiasts, but for the casual RPG player, like me, it’s a pretty big deterrent from buying the game. The long cut-scenes in the Metal Gear Solid games tend to annoy me, and that’s with a series I really like. Don’t know if I’d want to be doing that for a brand new story, even if it were that epic.
