The Wilton Villager Online has a stern reminder of why players should put up their games during thunderstorms. Two teens were knocked back Thursday night as their guitar controllers became electrified. Ben and Chris Bergen of Wilton, Connecticut were were rocking to “Message in a Bottle” on Guitar Hero 2 when a lightning strike near the house channeled through the electric wiring to their PS2 and shocked them.

“I actually looked over at my brother because I thought he hit me in the chest with something,” Chris Bergin said.

The teens are shaken but unharmed. The controllers are fried.

Fire Capt. Kevin Czarnecki said such an event could happen with any electrical appliance. “People say you should not be talking on the telephone either,” he said. “It’s a video game, it uses a lot of electricity, so any large voltage of electricity could find its way.”

Makes you think twice about turning off that hardware during electrical storms. Those guitar controllers are expensive.
