Levine Confirms No PS3 BioShock

According to the following quote from Ken Levine at Sony, there will be no BioShock for the PS3:

I promise you, there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we’re keeping from people. There’s no PS3 development going on that we’re hiding. There’s lots of stuff that gets into game code, plans change over time and we got an exclusive deal with Microsoft … that’s not a Rosetta Stone discovery.

Should we give up all hope that the awesome title will head to the Sony PS3? I’d have to say “no”. Sony has a trend of denying literally every rumor that comes out. There was also the fact that code was recently discovered in the 360 version leading people to believe that they are indeed developing the title for the PS3 as well. Sony emphatically denied the price drop rumors on the PS3 until it actually happened. This could be the same case here. If they are developing the game for the Sony console, I am sure we will not see it until 2008 and probably not hear about it until the end of 2007.

At this point there is no solid evidence pointing towards a secret development, so it must be filed as a very loose rumor. Levine may be telling the truth, or he may just be telling a partial truth. At this point, there’s know what to know what’s real.

After seeing the reviews and basically the response everyone has had from this game, I think 2K Boston would be absolutely crazy to not want to bring BioShock to the PS3. And if they don’t bring BioShock to the PS3, then at least it’s sequel, if there is one.

Didn’t you read the article Daniel? Go buy an Xbox 360 RIGHT NOW!

@dedalo: I own all of the consoles. If you check out my gamertag ‘BenDoverx’, then you’ll see that I’m well into the game. I was just stating an opinion on why 2K Boston should bring the game to the PS3. It’s basically being touted as probably the greatest game in years. It might even overthrow the reigning Ocarina of Time as highest rated game.

I don’t think it can overthrow OoT. No way, jose.

To do that, it has to stand the test of time. And because BioShock is merely another updated Doom clone, in less than a year it will be surpassed by another FPS (Halo 3). And unlike with action-adventure/rpg-ish games (OoT), not everybody is into FPS. That genre is actually a niche genre that magazines and websites like to hype because the genre defines hardcore gamers in their mind. Pure nonesense. Most FPS are played on a PC anyway. So BioShock will probably make waves in that arena, more than on the console world.

Besides, for the past 9 years, OoT has been voted among the best games of all time. I hardly think Bioshock will be considered as such after 9 years.

One guy decided to research the best games of all time lists ever published for the past 10 years. Guess which game usually came up on those lists?

BioShock an updated Doom clone? what?

I actually think BioShock are the kind of games we need to get the non FPS guys on board. I really do not see FPS as being niche for much longer.

I don’t think BioShock will go down as one of the greatest games ever, but it will certainly make my top 10 from 2007 as far as console gaming is concerned.
