Lego’s director of business development Mark Hansen spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about its strategy to make Lego Universe stand out in the competitive MMO market. They intend to go one better than Second Life or other games that allow players to design their own projects on line. Lego intends to offer players the option of having their digital creations physically custom made and sent to them.
If you look at our history in videogames, starting with Lego.com and Digital Designer, and the physical aspects of this, how kids can really customise characters and customise products that they build and then order the exact brick from us – that’s a unique proposition right there. We’re very proud of that because there’s no one else that can do that. That’s what our supply chain is geared towards. It’s about the customisation.
Actually, that could be a very scary proposition if applied to a game like Second Life, but for Lego Universe it should be a blast as well as a great selling point.

HA! Maybe now I can finally get them to send me some 5×1 pieces!
