SOE has announced that the new Legends of Norrath Oathbound online card game is live. Norrath is based on the popular Everquest and Everquest II MMORPGs and is available to all subscribers. Players can take on opponents from either game across all servers or challenge themselves with A.I. competitors.
Oathbound is the first release in the Legends of Norrath storyline, featuring more than 375 digital cards, available in both 55 card digital starter decks for $9.99 (plus applicable taxes) and 15 card digital booster packs for $2.99 (plus applicable taxes). In the three-part Oathbound storyline, players become part of a secret war between the forces of Order and Chaos, preventing the realm of Norrath from the brunt of a bloody and eternal war.
Legends of Norrath features PvP play as well as a re-playable AI system for single player campaigns, easy to use management tools and numerous Casual and Tournament game lobbies. Complete quests or decimate your opponent’s health to claim victory. As an added incentive, the game has a loot system with more than 30 items for EQ and EQII including player mounts, weapon adornments, clothing, potions and spells.
EQ and EQII players will receive a starter game deck and the Legends of Norrath game client. Non-subscribers can join in the battle when a free stand-alone client becomes available September 12.

I played my fair share of both EQ1 and 2, but i gotta say even if i was still big into the games i would NEVER pay for some crap like this. Yet another example of SOE trying to milk their player base.
Well seeing how its Optional…I would not say that SOE is milking as you say but giving another play option. You Don’t have to pay or play.
