Spark Unlimited has announced that it too is getting in on the graphic novel/videogame marriage craze by releasing a 96-page graphic novel adaptation of their upcoming first person-action game Legendary. Currently sitting on retail shelves, the graphic novel revolving around the severe bad luck of art thief Charles Deckard, who unwittingly opens Pandora’s Box, was written by comic book veteran, Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, Superman: Birthright), and the artwork was created by Top Cow Production artist Martin Montiel.
Like the game, expect it to be full of griffons, harpy-like creatures, minotaurs, and werewolves who are devilishly enjoying sacking a modern day city while you learn the backstory of Deckard and how he became involved with opening such a dangerous container created by none other than Zeus himself. THAT will teach man to learn the secret of fire, mwha ha ha ha ha!!
The novel will also delve into his dealings with the Black Order, and how he copes with being the only one who can save mankind. — Seems like there is always a “secret order” in games now and days” –
Other than the fact that a lot of other games have graphic novels created for them, Spark Unlimited’s CEO Craig Allen, has stated that their primary objective to releasing such a form of entertainment was so that gamers could get to know more about this reluctant hero:
“Our primary focus at Spark is all about making Legendary an epic gameplay experience. However, there was a lot more of the story we wanted to tell and so we reached out to Mark Waid and invited him to create a unique expression of Legendary’s characters and narrative as a graphic novel.”
The Legendary graphic novel is available now at comic retailers for $14.99, and on top of this, Spark Unlimited and Southpeak Interactive (who just recently purchased Gamecock) have announced the official release date of Legendary. Therefore, you can expect it to be made available on November 4 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 with the PC version arriving in stores on November 18.
