To the members of the gaming community: prepare for incoming fire. Law & Order Special Victims Unit is airing an episode entitled “Avatar” tonight. For those of you unfamiliar with Law & Order SVU, it’s based on the New York Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, an elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes.
Television tends to portray gamers as complete geeks and nerds, individuals completely obsessed with games, or twisted individual trained to be serial killers. Hopefully Law & Order SVU will skip these stereo types and do something unique, but I’m prepared to be disappointed.
According to the preview, this episode deals with sexuality in a Second Life like virtual reality leading to a real life crime. Here’s the synopsis of the episode:
“A woman involved in virtual reality video games goes missing, and her “avatar” is at the root of the investigation.”
To preview the episode, visit the Law & Order SVU site to see if you want to Tivo it or not. “Avatar” airs on NBC Tuesday night 10/9 c with a TV-14 rating.
Thanks to GamePolitics for the heads up.

This didn’t show gamers in a bad light at all. It was about a perverted man who liked young girls. The game in question let you do whatever you wanted, like be 14 and a whip brandashing prostitute…lol.
Basically a young guy who liked young girls who kidnapped a girl whose avatar looked like the young girl he was seeing. The game was just a tool. It could’ve just as easily been about avatar from chat programs or a forum.
I wanted to know if that game was real. Well actuallly my daughter does. I keep telling her its not, but she’s like, “Mommy i need proof!!”
Is that game real plz reply tome if it is and if it isn’t reply to me and tell me that too. I hope its real because i’ve been searching 4 it on the computer.
