Konami Gets in on the Rhythm Genre with Rock Revolution

Coming to the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 is Konami’s Rock Revolution. Described as an “unprecedented, authentic music-based video game that will re-define the rhythm genre”, the game will come with its own drums. You can also “rock out” with the bass, guitar and vocals. Take THAT Harmonix!
According to Konami, Rock Revolution will be available with the most realistic drum peripheral on the market when it launches for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Featuring a supposedly extensive music selection on the game disc, along with a wide variety of downloadable songs available at launch, the game will also have single player modes as well as the prerequisite multiplayer.
The Wii version will be quite different from its Microsoft and Sony counterparts due to its “interactive use of the controls” where you will have the definitive “air-drum and air-guitar experience”plus the DS version will let you use the stylus for rhythm matching sessions.
Rock Revolution is scheduled to launch this Fall, and to quite honest with you, I cannot see anyone choosing the Wii version over the others if all you get to do is “air drum” and “air guitar” - I mean, “air guitar” and “air drums” what a crock… I am not paying over $40 for something I can see a mullet coiffed redneck in a beat up trans am do at a stop light here in my hometown.
I hope to the gaming gods that I read the press release wrong, I really do. Anyway, check out the trailer for yourself.

Really Konami? Really? Come on guys. Is there a need for ANOTHER music game? Guitar Hero & Rock Band are enough to be honest.
Oh well, I guess artists who are featured in this game are going to get a nice payday.

To add what I just said, I want to make it known that I love music games. I have for years. But I think the whole "Rock Band" type of music game is pretty much secure with both Rock Band & Guitar Hero. Why doesn't Konami try to make an original music based game like Patapon or something instead of this.

Actually, when listening to the trailer, I think it is all covers. Sure, they got some great cover bands to do the songs - probably even tribute bands by the sound of it. While they indeed sound like the original, if you know the songs well, you can discern slight differences to the music and the vocals. For example, in Youth Gone Wild, Sebastian Bach almost growls at one point in the song and when that part was played in the trailer above, it was with out the growl. Also, in No One Like You (awesome song btw) the words are annunciated too much - sure Klaus Meine has a very distinctive style of singing and annunciates his words rather well, but these are just "too" perfect - like the singers is trying way too hard to sound like him.
Wow. I need to get a life. Seriously.

Oh yeah, BTW (since I am in full-on rant-mode this morning anyway) when in the hell are the REAL Ann and Nancy Wilson going to be featured in one of these games?
Some chick trying to sing ANYTHING Ann Wilson did is just a total abomination and outright sacrilegious. That is like someone other than Led Zeppelin or the Beatles doing their songs. Oh the horror! Someone should STONE THEM!
But remember, no one is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle!
