James Cameron, big Hollywood director guy and King of the World, (Aliens, Terminator, Cry-tanic) recently revealed that Ubisoft’s 3D version of Avatar is up and running on Xbox 360 consoles. Avatar is a movie tie-in game slated for a 2009 release along side Cameron’s movie of the same title. Supposedly, Avatar is being hyped as one of the largest films to grace the new stereoscopic film projectors in US movie theaters.
According to Cameron:
“Stereo production is the next big thing. We are born seeing in three dimensions. Most animals have two eyes and not one. There is a reason I think.”
Huh? Anyway, Cameron thinks that 3D will help games become more immersive, and he also suggested that displays for other forms of media, laptops, Zune, phones and the like could go stereoscopic without special 3D glasses which were a wacky mainstay of cheesy movies from the 60’s, 70’s and sometimes in the 80’s.
Sometimes, I think that you may not want to see certain things in 3D. Imagine, if you will, seeing a movie starring Ray Liotta. One would think they were looking at the surface of the moon, only to be horrified to learn the truth. Ok, that was little mean even for me.
