"Sony's 10-year policy isn't a prediction of the future, it's a promise. The PS3 launched six or seven years after the PS2, but Sony continues to develop titles for the PS2 because that's what they promised customers who bought PS2s."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHahahahahaahahahahhah cough cough, ahahahah ok

That being said, what joke. If you actually believe that you are a total sucker.
Sony kept "supporting" the playstations because there was still money in it. Period. Iwata is basically saying they plan to do the same thing. Keep in mind, Nintendo of Japan finally pulled support for the FAMICOM 2 months ago! Also, Sony isn't really the one supporting the PS2 right now. Third parties are. They are making games for it because they sell. Don't kid yourself. If the PS3 totally tanks, you'll be sitting high and dry with few to no games in a couple of years. The cube sputtered out long before it should have but Nintendo still do a fair job of making games for it. Look at the xbox. That was a total loss for MS and they dumped it like a high school girlfriend after the first day of college. They moved on. If the PS3 is total money loser into year 3 and blu-ray loses to HD-DVD (not likely, but still), you can bet you'll be wondering where the PS2 level of support is.

So what they're saying is that, if they can make money publishing for the Wii, they'll continue to do so, but if it turns out in a year or two that "their current platforms’ potential is nonexistent", they reserve the right to just dump everyone who bought a Wii and move on to the next generation?

You can feel secure buying a Sony product because you know, regardless of which way the market turns or how the future turns out, that Sony will support the product you bought for as long as they said they will.

What a way to twist words, though. Nintendo is giving themselves the right to abandon their customers, and claims that supporting a product that they've sold for money is "inflexible". Disappointing.
