The final part of Nintendo’s “Iwata Asks” series based on the innovative Wii Fit game has been released. Those of you following this series of articles know what Wii Fit has in common with Sumo wrestlers. The four segment focuses on Nintendo President Satoru Iwata interviewing five development staff members involved in the sound, design and planning of Wii Fit.
The interview covers the challenges of developing a game to inspire good health that encourages good performance and perseverance without discouraging failure. There’s no penalty buzzer or laugh track if you fall off your board.
The group also talks about the Zelda connection and the use of sound to convey a feeling of motion and velocity. The two females on the team discuss being asked to represent every woman as the team strove to make a very “cold” game warm and inviting to increase the appeal to women. Wii Fit, bundled with the Wii Balance Board and is due to hit U.S. stores on May 19.

Shawn, did you notice the two interesting comments in this series?
Miyamoto : “I forgot to mention something important earlier: I don’t think Wii Fit’s purpose is to make you fit.
“If you’re standing still, and it tells you ‘Your body is swaying’, you can see on the training results screen that your body has been shaking.”
Wii Fit? Nah… Wii-Try-To-Stand-Still? Maybe.
