Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admitted yesterday that the company failed to accurately predict the popularity of the Wii. He also confirmed that they are now taking steps to ramp up production of the elusive console. Iwata told reporters, “We must do our best to fix this abnormal lack of stock. We have not been able to properly foresee demand.” While he wouldn’t give figures on how many Wii consoles are produced each month, he did say that deliveries would be increased by next month, saying, “We will do our best to offer the machine for those who are waiting.” Iwata also said that Nintendo is pumping out 2.5 million DS units a month, making its rate of manufacture the highest ever for a Nintendo console.
The popularity of the Wii and the DS led to the record financial gains Nintendo posted for the year ending March 31. With Nintendo showing a 77% rise in profits, is it any wonder they want to step up Wii production?

I’m surprised at the demand for the Wii, it has 0% appeal to me and I most likely will never get one.
