sixaxis1 Its Official: Sony Confirms Sixaxis Rumble

It’s been anticipated for quite some time and certain companies already unintentionally confirmed its existence, but yesterday at Sony’s Tokyo Game Show conference Kaz Hirai confirmed a new Sixaxis controller with rumble – Dual Shock 3.

Kaz mentioned this being in response to what the fanbase was clamoring for. A number of titles at TGS are playable with rumble (in addition to Burnout Paradise) including Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, and Rachet & Clank. Already-released games will support rumble; a full list of titles can be seen after the break.

The controller will be released in Japan this fall and in the spring for the US and Europe. If I was in the market for a PS3 this holiday season, I might hesitate knowing that next year there will be a superior controller released that I’ll then have to drop $50 on (which is presumably what the price of the controller will be) to get the best gaming experience. But, it’s likely this move is being made to sell through all Sixaxis controllers out there before the new wave hits.

Check after the break for a list of games that will support rumble.

IMO, they just screwed up their holiday buying season. I’m with you, at this point even if they lowered the price of the console, I’d wait until the new rumble controllers were in the box.

    2. Xboxlenny says:

They should drop the price and clear thease out without the Dualshock 3, i defently agree and wouldnt buy one without the dualshock feature now. You are selling your self short. you loose either way.

Get an 80GB model and its has software emulation and No rumble, both sucks. The ultimate would be 60GB with Hardware backwards compatability and buy some dual shock controlers extra. Sony just shot themselfs in the foot yet again. this may hurt sales if people know a rumble controller is soon out. and yes the xbox 360 has software emulation for their games.

    3. Joelteon7 says:

I don’t see what the big thing is about rumble, however Sony are being idiots about this. Third parties are gonna lose out as well becasue their cheaper (sometimes better) peripherals are going to become outdated. Not to mention the wasted expenditure by Sony to create the original set of controllers. Might not be that much, but they must cost something to develop, any Sony aren’t exactly raking it in with the PS3.
