Interplay has released financial figures for its Q3 earnings which are moderate, with the sale of the Fallout IP to Bethesda as its saving grace. However the company retains the right to produce a Fallout MMOG in the future.

“This quarter marks an important milestone in the company’s difficult turnaround period of the past three years,” commented, Interplay Chairman and CEO Herve Caen. “We are now focused on a two-pronged growth strategy. As we are working to secure funding for the development of a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) based on the popular Fallout franchise, we are at the same time exploring ways to leverage our impressive portfolio of gaming properties through sequels and various development and publishing arrangements.”

Caen has announced the reformation of the company’s in-house game development studio. Jason Anderson, veteran of Fallout 1 and 2, will serve as creative director of an unannounced MMOG.

As a big fan of the original Fallout games, I would really like to see a MMOG based on the franchise. That is as long as it was a mature rated game, true to the original.
