Internap Network Services Corporation, known globally as a business provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, has announced its intelligent routing and IP technology is being put to use by GameRail to maximize performance for online gamers.
GameRail operates a nationwide private broadband network designed to decrease latency and improve game play through its patent pending Partial Bypass Overlay Network (PBON) optimization for Real Time applications. In other words, PBON allows users to bypass traditional Internet connections that can degrade performance, giving them an edge in multiplayer online gaming.
“When 20 milliseconds is a matter of ‘life and death’– winning and losing – for an online gamer, latency, packet loss and jitter can ruin the playing experience,” said Mark Senda, chief executive officer for GameRail. “Internap’s optimized network performance solutions allow us to provide localized ingress and egress connection speeds to three milliseconds, maximizing the flow of real-time Web traffic while optimizing game play.”
When you’re worried about about 20 milliseconds, I seriously doubt your having fun. Now if I were a professional gamer, I can see the need for this kind of service. When joy becomes job that fraction of an instant is critical. Otherwise I really can’t see spending all my hard earned cash on these services when I could be downloading new content or buying new games.
